*Personal injury claims are still being evaluated for individual payouts.
Philips used a polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR) foam to reduce sound and vibration in their ventilators and CPAP machines.
It was discovered that this foam breaks down over time, especially in high heat or humid conditions, or when cleaned with ozone cleaners. Users were unknowingly inhaling black debris and toxic VOC gases directly into their lungs while they slept, causing severe respiratory issues and cancer.
Direct inhalation of carcinogens.
Scarring of lung tissue.
Toxic chemicals entering bloodstream.
Severe asthma, COPD exacerbation.
Note: The recall affects devices manufactured between 2009 and April 2021.
Following the recent $1.1 billion settlement for personal injury claims, payouts are being categorized by injury severity.
New onset Asthma, COPD worsening, or Chronic Bronchitis without hospitalization.
Pulmonary Fibrosis, Sarcoidosis, or Cancer requiring surgery/treatment.
