Firefighters and military personnel exposed to PFAS "Forever Chemicals" in foam are developing kidney, testicular, and other cancers. 3M and DuPont are facing accountability.
*Individual injury claims are separate from water settlements.
Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) has been used for decades to extinguish fuel fires. It contains high levels of PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), synthetic chemicals that do not break down in the environment or the human body.
Manufacturers like 3M and DuPont allegedly knew since the 1970s that PFAS accumulated in blood and caused cancer in lab animals but continued to sell the product to airports, military bases, and fire departments without adequate warnings.
Strongest scientific link to PFAS exposure.
High incidence rates among exposed firefighters.
Linked particularly to advanced/aggressive cases.
Severe inflammatory bowel disease linked to PFOA.
Note: Thyroid disease and liver damage are also being investigated as potential qualifying injuries.
Settlement values are estimated based on the severity of the cancer, age of the plaintiff, and duration of exposure to AFFF.
Less severe cancers (e.g., Prostate, Thyroid) or cases with limited proof of direct exposure.
Testicular or Kidney cancer with documented occupational exposure history.
Severe/Advanced Kidney Cancer, younger plaintiffs, heavy daily exposure (e.g., airport firefighters).
Updates on MDL 2873, Bellwether Trials, and Settlements.
No recent AFFF news found. Please check back later.
If you served as a firefighter or in the military and were diagnosed with cancer, you may be entitled to significant compensation.
Yes and No. 3M has agreed to a $10.3 billion settlement with public water systems to clean up drinking water. However, settlements for individual firefighters and personal injury claims are still being negotiated in the MDL.
While you cannot sue the US military directly (Feres Doctrine), you CAN sue the manufacturers of the foam (3M, DuPont, etc.) for product liability. You may also be eligible for VA disability benefits.
The strongest scientific links are to Kidney and Testicular cancer. Other cancers often included in investigations are Prostate, Pancreatic, Bladder, and Leukemia, though criteria may vary by law firm.
